Cinema: "The substance" in Ilanz

Elisabeth, formerly a big movie star, is in her 50s and hosting a Jane Fonda-style fitness show when her boss fires her. He wants to replace her with a younger, more attractive woman. But there is a solution to the problem, a liquid called The Substance, which promises to create a more youthful, beautiful and perfect doppelganger. The only condition is to share the available life time with your second self – a week for yourself, a week for the new version, a perfect balance of seven days each. If this rule is respected, what can possibly go wrong?

After her feature film debut "Revenge", French director Coralie Fargeat once again focuses on a woman who is pushed to her limits by the demands of a patriarchal society in "The Substance", this time with a focus on ageism and sexism in the entertainment industry. Hollywood star Demi Moore ("G.I. Jane", "Striptease") and Margaret Qualley ("Kinds of Kindness", "Poor Things") shine in the leading roles as her alter ego. A masterpiece of the body horror genre, satirical, rousing and visually breathtaking. The film won the prize for Best Screenplay at the Cannes Film Festival.
