The Nutcracker

During the Christmas season, dreams come true - or sometimes not. But for Klara and her Nutcracker, the dream comes true: together they defeat the army of mice and save Christmas Eve. The mice flee and the Nutcracker turns into a prince who kidnaps Klara into the kingdom of sweets.

Tchaikovsky's music is imaginative, pictorial and distinctive. His composition, based on the story of E.T.A. Hoffmann, has made "The Nutcracker" one of his most famous works. Tchaikovsky's musical exploration of the child's fantasy world was unusual and innovative in his time, especially through his unusual choice of instruments. He was one of the first great composers to even use children's toy instruments such as trumpets, cuckoo pipes, tin drums and cymbals. The celesta in particular contributed to Hoffmann's fantastic and sometimes gloomy world musically impressive.

The Kammerphilharmonie Graubünden under the direction of Philippe Bach brings a magical fairytale world to life with the enchanting sounds of Tchaikovsky's famous ballet "The Nutcracker". Nik Hartmann leads through the story as narrator.
