Description
Probably built at the beginning of the 17th century, at least before 1643.The building: north-facing chapel with a vaulted wooden ceiling. Arched windows. Entrance to the south. An open ridge turret with a curved dome on the gabled roof.Only fragments of wall paintings have been uncovered. Mother of God with child.Gothic winged altar: Three statues, slightly flattened at the back, stand in a square shrine beneath delicate tracery with ogee arches and fish bladders against a golden damascened background: Mary with the child between St. Catherine and Magdalene. The wings are painted on both sides. On each of the inner sides is a female saint on a damascened gold background, St. Barbara on the left and St. Margaret on the right, carrying the dragon on her veiled right hand. The sculptures in this work are closely related to the sculpture on the altar in Disentis signed by Yvo Striegel, which becomes particularly clear when comparing the Madonnas. They can probably be regarded as works by the master himself. The altar originally stood in the parish church of Obersaxen in Meierhof, on the Gospel side. Bells: With inscriptions, 1657.
