Description
At Saas (Mataintobel district) the trail has had to be temporarily diverted (single trail) due to severe weather in 2013. Pay particular attention on the climb, especially if riding the route in the opposite direction (Sargans - Klosters).
***
A leisurely bike ride from sophisticated Klosters to the peaceful village of Sargans. From the spa town of Klosters, through the linear Prättigau, on plateaus and in tributary valleys, flanked by high mountains, like the Silvretta and Rätikon. Onward to Landquart in the Rhine Valley, passing the health resort of Bad Ragaz to the transport hub of Sargans.
The starting point is in the largest village in the Prättigau region, the spa town of Klosters, which is always slightly in competition with the urban chic of Davos. The route drops down to the River Landquart, when suddenly a massive concrete eagle rises up over the valley: the elegant 70-metre high cable-stayed bridge, designed by the ingenious bridge-builder Christian Menn was inaugurated in 2005.
Follow the River Landquart, passing through the linear Prättigau Valley with its many beautiful villages, on plateaus and in tributary valleys. Formerly Romansch, today the Prättigau Valley is a German-speaking valley, flanked by high mountains, like the Silvretta and Rätikon, which affect the tough climate in the valley.
A narrow gorge, the countryside opens out: cross to the other side in Landquart Station. The route takes in the Rhine dam and the health spa of Bad Ragaz, and finally ends up at Sargans, the junction of all traffic flows.
