„QIU SHIHUA Landscapes“
Galerie Karsten Greve St. Moritz is pleased to present Landscapes, a comprehensive solo exhibition with works dating from 2000 to 2018 by the Chinese artist Qiu Shihua (born 1940 in Zizhong). His paintings, which appear at first glance like monochrome color surfaces, reveal on a more careful inspection, spacious landscapes painted in shades of white. These are not faithful depictions of reality, nor the results of careful observation of nature; they result, rather, from self-observation and imagination: In my pictures I try to give expression to visions beyond the visible. But I also try to depict things completely and at the same time vividly. When the beholder enters the (picture) space, he will feel how real they are, and he will notice how what he sees changes every now and then, sometimes growing larger, sometimes smaller, depending on his inner state. (Qiu Shihua).
