Description
The name of the Schyn Gorge comes from a practically vertical rock face (Schyn or Moir) on the north side of the gorge, which is around 800 metres high and over 20 metres wide. The historic connecting path, the Alte Schyn, runs through the wall around 500 metres above the valley floor and was once an important route for goods traffic between the Albula Valley and the Domleschg. Today, this path is a well-secured hiking trail between the small hamlet of Muldain-Vaz/Obervaz and the Plan Funtauna rest area. It is carved into the rock, relatively wide, secured with handrails and has an 80 metre long tunnel with lighting running through the rock face. On the hike, the Schynweg offers an impressive view down into the Schyn Gorge. There is still a risk of rockfall at one point.
The campfire site is easily accessible on foot or by bike and is located between Thusis and Muldain.
