Description
Fastetg, Ravetsch, Curnatsch: this is how poetic the Rhaeto-Romanic place names in Rothenbrunnen sound. "Bödeli", the name for this hill, sounds somewhat simpler. However, the old Rhaeto-Romanic name "Plaun digl Bogn" eloquently expresses what kind of place this is: the plain above the baths.
This bath is fed by two springs: the Aua Alva, the white water, and the Fontana rossa, the spring with the reddish (fountain) water. Rothenbrunnen owes its name and its former importance as a health resort to this spring, which contains iron and iodine.
Today, the old Rothenbrunnen spa centre attracts visitors with flowers instead of bathing cures. The splendid gardens of the Kurhaus also set the mood for the Domleschg: The valley is known as the orchard of Graubünden.
