Description

The ruins of the former church fort of Solavers are located on the hiking trail between Grüsch and Seewis, just above Seewis-Schmitten on a rock head.

Solavers Castle is built on the three-sided almost vertically sloping rock spur above the Seewis-Schmitten faction. Initially probably used as a fortified church, it was expanded into a feudal castle in the 11th/12th century by the Counts of Bregenz. Later owners were the Lords of Vaz, of Aspermont, of Matsch and Ofggenburg. Today, the massive defensive wall on the mountain side and parts of the wall of the "Marienkirche" have been preserved.
