The chapel, which was designed by Peter Zumthor, is located a few hundred meters from the old site. The timber construction integrates elements of the local building style and is both traditional and very modern. The teardrop-shaped floor plan plays with natural geometric shapes, while inside, skylights and the abundance of wood lend the room a warm and light atmosphere.

Description

For a thousand years, the Capletta Sogn Benedetg above Sumvitg defied storms and weather until it was completely destroyed by a huge avalanche of dust on February 10, 1984. Subsequently, the well-known architect Peter Zumthor was commissioned to build a new chapel in a safe location. This was inaugurated in 1989. Since then, the ruins of the old chapel have also been restored.
