Cinema Sil Plaz, Ilanz

The Cinema Sil Plaz association enriches the region with a contemporary platform for film, concerts, cabaret and literature. From avant-garde films to blockbusters, local, expatriate and foreign artists – the selected programme pampers the most diverse tastes.

But the location is also impressive. After a renovation, the old smithy in the city centre is equipped with a bar, stage for concerts and cabaret and a cinema room. The raw character of the forge was preserved. In the cinema room, the members of the association lent a hand themselves and, together with a clay construction specialist, created a unique room whose walls create a special atmosphere with a rammed earth construction.

This conversion concept received the Swiss Federal Art Prize in the architecture category even before the reopening. And in December 2010, "Hochparterre Schweiz" awarded the Cinema sil Plaz with the "Golden Hare" for the best architectural project of 2010.
