Gebiet Murgsee

Gebiet Murgsee (oua_604390125_image)
The Murgsee area in the Tectonic Arena Sardona offers impressive geological formations and extensive Swiss stone pine forests. The landscape has been significantly shaped by glaciers and is a UNESCO spot.

Description

The fracture from the Mürtschenfurggel can be followed further to the Murgseefurggel and the Widersteinerfurggel. There, massive Verrucano rocks (to the west) were pushed over softer, more schistose Verrucano formations. The massive Verrucano rocks in the Murgsee area were heavily shaped and polished by glaciers. In addition to moorlands, this region also developed the northernmost occurrences of extensive Swiss stone pine (Arve) forests in Central Europe.
