The mountain world on the Pizol also includes the legends, especially those that revolve around the subject of rocks. The locals mainly talk about the Venetians. Explorers from the lagoon city of Venice were in search of gold and silver. In the Sarganserland, they hiked the side valleys and the area around the Grey Horns. They knew exactly in which rock faces, caves and ravines they had to place their jug in order to be able to pick it up again the following day, filled to the brim with gold. Their ability to locate gold and silver was aided by a "mountain mirror", similar to binoculars. With this, they were able to see a few meters deep into the mountain. The locals, especially the alpine shepherds who housed them, were often very skeptical of the Venetians. Not without reason. The people of Venice gave beech leaves as a thank you for the accommodation. Without their knowledge, the alpine shepherds usually threw them away far too early. But those who had the necessary patience turned their leaves to gold.
