Description
This is the original Alpöhi hut (or grandfather’s cottage) from the TV adaptation (1978) of the world-famous novels by Johanna Spyri from 1880 and 1881. In the 26-part children’s series, the nearby village of Grevasalvas at 1940 m in the municipality of Sils in the Engadine / Segl served as the filming location.
Originally built in 1792 in Val Bregalia, the cottage was brought to Alp Albana above Champfèr for the filming in 1977. The Heidi Hut has been located above St. Moritz since 1979 and here on Salastrains since 2003. It was renovated in summer 2021. The local artist, Reto Grond, contributed the carved wooden figures inside the hut.
In 2023, the Heidi story, or more precisely the Johanna Spyri Archive, as well as the Heidi Archive in Zurich, have been added to UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register.
It is freely accessible.
Tip:
From the Heidi hut we recommend a hike down into the valley via the Schellenurlisweg or Heidis Flowertrail.
