Rovine torre Monticello

img_4kq_ffhafcde

Among the wonderful vineyards and woods of the La Motta hill, south of the village of Monticello, few remains of walls of a mysterious tower are visible.

Description

The tower probably had a surveillance and defense function along the southern border of the Mesolcina. The remains of the walls reveal the probable control of the passage between the Moesa river and the hill itself. Local stories suggest that the stones of the tower were reused in the construction of the church of Santa Maria della Neve, erected in 1513, located north of the hill.
