Erika Spencer makes music about the seriousness of life without taking herself too seriously. In her songwriting, she addresses the human experience, honestly and precisely, yet always with a wink. Something like the books by Jane Austen, which she fell in love with as a teenager. Her instrument of choice is the piano, and live, she sometimes also plays the guitar. Originally, the singer-songwriter was on her way to becoming a jazz pianist. You can hear that in her songs: the Swiss artist with South African roots combines alternative pop with jazz and folk. With her debut album "Go," released in March 2024, she celebrates the courageous departure and all the fears, contradictions, and absurdities that come with it. The intertwined paths of jazz guitarist Emanuel Schmidt have taken him from Europe to the United States, to Australia, and back to Switzerland. Emanuel Schmidt listened to "Go" and was immediately fascinated and convinced by Erika's transparency and authenticity on the record. Emanuel communicates his feelings and beliefs through his guitar, his compositions, and a good dose of self-humor. More info on the cultural winter program at www.arosakultur.ch/
