Retired teacher Lia wants to find out what happened to her niece Tekla, who has been missing for years. Achi, a quirky teenager from her neighborhood in Batumi, gives Lia a tip that Tekla has exchanged the tranquil conditions of Georgia for the pulsating life in Istanbul. So the unlikely couple embarks together on a journey to the Turkish metropolis, where they succumb to the fascinating and chaotic charm of the city. Only they find no clues to the whereabouts of Tekla. Only with the help of the dedicated lawyer Evrim can they make their way through Istanbul's alleys and backyards and thus get on Tekla's trail...

Just like "And Then We Danced", Levan Akin's new film "Crossing", the audience favourite of this year's Berlinale, is gripping with great emotions. Two opposing strangers overcome their ideological, cultural and internal boundaries on their mission, and make a new friendship in this ode to humanity.
