The film goes beyond the nostalgic look at the popular stage characters and dives into a world in which Emil fights against the shadows of his childhood and the pressure of fame to find his place as a celebrated comedian. Last but not least, "Typical Emil" is the story of a great, romantic love.

The film team worked through unseen archive material and searched for stories that have never been told. The result is a film about courage, love and the tireless urge to reinvent oneself again and again.
