The desert island is the ideal retreat for many people. No noise, no obligations and sweet idleness in the sun. In the adventure novel Robinson Crusoe, the dream of seclusion turns into a nightmare.

The painting L'embarquement pour Cythère by Antoine Watteau inspired Claude Debussy to create his work L'isle joyeuse. The picture shows the Greek island of Kythera, which was considered an island of happiness and sensual fulfillment in mythology. Debussy reworked the work in the summer of 1904 on the British island of Jersey, which served him as a creative retreat. Music for and from the desert island.
