Concert: The City of the Sun (Final Concert)

What sounds like a postmodern utopia in short originally comes from the work La città del Sole by the Dominican Tommaso Campanella from 1602. He paid for his ideas for twenty years in the dungeons of the Vatican. Even if some of the ideas contained in it seem backward-looking and religiously motivated, history teaches us that utopias do not have to remain "non-places", but can certainly be realised. Above all, they also serve to highlight grievances and question the current situation.

In the final concert of the DAVOS FESTIVAL, a universal journey into the inner workings of Christian Jost meets the now satisfied longing of Johannes Brahms. The concert ends with Franz Schubert's last piano trio and his never-ending Allegro moderato, which is utopian at almost 750 bars.
