Concert: Waiting Room

With the "Waiting Room" project, [sic]nals encounter the Hotel Schatzalp in its former function as a sanatorium. At the beginning of the 20th century, tuberculosis patients travelled here to be cured with the help of air and light therapy. With the declared goal of the spa town to be climate-neutral by 2030, the phrase air and light therapy reads with a new connotation: Are we possibly concerned today with a therapy of light and air – with healing phenomena from which the spa guests at the time hoped to be cured? "Waiting Room" opens a sanatorium in which there is a speculative approach to the bodies/phenomena to be treated. Routine pulse measurement structures the stay in the waiting room: an ensemble of recorder, traverso, viola da gamba and percussion reacts to partly human and partly non-human pulses, which are generated with data streams of climate-related phenomena. The musical material of the performance is works of the Renaissance and contemporary music. The musicians interact with objects whose installation and mechanics question the material boundaries of the living.
