Event Engadin Samnaun Val Müstair
Guided tour of the Holy Cross Chapel at Christmas time
Description
The Carolingian Chapel of the Holy Cross can only be visited on a guided tour. It stands somewhat apart today, but was once integrated into the monastery complex. Like the monastery church, the chapel dates back to the 8th century and thus to the time of Charlemagne.
The original Carolingian mortar floor is visible on the upper floor. Up to ten layers of paint and whitewash once covered the walls of the Chapel of the Holy Cross. The guided tour will give you an insight into the wall paintings from different eras and tell you more about the once precious furnishings of this chapel.
Duration of the tour: 50 minutes.
