Hölde – The silent heroes of the Säntis

Meteorologists and scientists from all over Europe were looking for a year-round weather observation station at high altitude and landed on the Säntis in 1879. The St. Gallen scientist Robert Billwiller seizes the opportunity, but underestimates the mountain and the weather. Avalanche death and a double murder tarnish the fame of the scientists. They are also powerless against the mountain and nature and pay a very high price. With the opening of the Säntis cable car in 1935, everything changed on the mountain. The Säntis bearers walk quietly back into the valley as they came. They are the real heroes. This film takes a look behind the scenes and talks about what has been quiet so far.
