Ilanz Summer: Hike to the Panix Reservoir

The excursion begins with the post bus ride to the idyllic village of Pigniu or in German Panix. From there you can walk to the dam wall of the Panix reservoir, which is decorated with a monumental painting by the Engadine artist Martin Vair.

The artwork commemorates an event in 1799, when the Russian general Alexander Vasiliyevich Suvorov, retreating from the French, marched with his army from Elm to Pigniu over the Panixer Pass.

In addition to the artistic and historical sights, the easy and varied hike with an impressive panorama leads into incomparably beautiful nature and past a large waterfall.



Meeting point: 10.20am in Ilanz at the train station
Departure by post bus from Ilanz at 10.35am, arrival in Pigniu at 10.54am

Return journey from Pigniu individually, or by post bus from Pigniu vitg at 3.55pm
Arrival in Ilanz at 4.15pm

Bring hiking boots, picnic, water

Requirement 2 – 3 hours of hiking. Good physical condition. Altitude difference approx. 200m.
