Lecture "World History on the Village Stage" in Pigniu

Exactly 225 years ago (October 1799), General Suvorov crossed the Panix Pass with his Russian army coming from Elm and arrived with 15,000 starving soldiers in the village of Pigniu.
Panix, which at that time had about 70 inhabitants. The army caused great misery. Actually, it was a tragic event. And yet: It lives on and interests the people of Panix
still today, but also many others, in Graubünden, in the Glarus region, in the rest of Switzerland and beyond. It is the fascination of the big story and the many small stories,
that are told about it.

Arnold Spescha, born in 1941 in Pigniu/Panix in the Surselva. Studied Romance languages. Music studies. Teacher of French, Romansh and Italian at the Grisons Cantonal School in Chur.
Lectureships at the Universities of Fribourg and Zurich. Conductor of the Military Band and the City Music of Chur. Writes poetry and prose in Sursilvan. Numerous other works on language, literature,
History and music. CRR Prize (Cuminanza Rumantscha Radio e Televisiun) 2003. Graubünden Culture Prize 2007. Stephan Jaeggi Prize (highest award in Swiss brass music) 2022
