Cauma ab Riein

This area is one of the best snowshoe regions in the Surselva. The Cauma is a mostly easy snowshoe tour above Ilanz. If you know your way around, you can also take some variants with you in this area.
Details
Description
From Riein, shortly after the start, it is mostly leisurely uphill. The wide alpine meadows are an ideal snowshoe terrain. In front of the hut of Alp da Riein it is wonderful to take an extensive rest. The view of the mountains of the Surselva is already phenomenal here. Through blueberry bushes, which are hopefully no longer visible, you now climb towards the summit slope. This has steep passages and, in appropriate conditions, requires experience in choosing the route. It can be climbed through the steep north slope or over the shoulder. Now you stand on the generous summit of the Cauma and can enjoy the phenomenal view.
We descend along the same path. Again and again, there are small variants that make the walk down exciting.
If you have the appropriate local knowledge and experience in assessing the avalanche danger, descents via the Dutjer Alp and/or the Alp da Sevgein are also possible.
Geheimtipp
In uncertain conditions, it is often only possible to climb up to Alp da Riesin. This is also a wonderful tour.
Sicherheitshinweis
Ski and snowshoe tours in unsecured terrain require good knowledge of avalanche danger assessment and tour planning. Furthermore, a complete safety upgrade must always be carried - regardless of the current avalanche danger.
We recommend the WhiteRisk app and website to prepare and plan the tour.
For carefree enjoyment, we recommend our mountain guides and snowshoe hiking guides of the Surselva.
