Monte San Giorgio is known as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is the world's most important site for marine fossils from the Middle Triassic. The Fossil Museum of Monte San Giorgio is located in Meride. The mountain itself is 1091 m high and the ascent is possible from several sides (1), (2). One possibility is to start in Funivia Brusino-Serpiano (650 m above sea level ). The trail leads mostly through the forest and is quite steep. The summit offers a beautiful panorama of Lake Lugano.
