Durch den Kastanienwald von Castasegna (Castasengen)

Above Castasegna, there is a beautiful chestnut forest, one of the largest in Europe. An "educational trail" leads through it, which not only allows you to admire this forest, but also the eastern mountains of the Bregaglia, above all the magnificent Piz Badile. The chestnuts are still cared for there in the traditional way. Along the way, you can also see the traditional "cascine" (small huts) where the chestnuts are dried. The trail has its charms in every season. In spring, when the trees bloom, they exude their sweet scent. The highlight is autumn, when the forest first turns yellow then red-orange and countless chestnuts can be collected on the ground. From the car park, head east along Via Brentan. After 1 km you will come across the Via da Stoll, which leads back to the starting point for 1 km.

Note: Chestnuts have long been an important staple food of the valley population in Bregaglia. For this reason, the chestnut forest plays an important role in the history and culture of Castasegna.
