Description
We took the bus from Zernez to La Regia and began our walk to Dürrboden. The weather forecast had told us of slight rain; this we felt was not a problem! Walking to Susauna was very pleasant and the little 17th century chapel in the hamlet interesting. The Way opened up and gently climbed along a river and through pleasant postural land with the mountain pass in the distance, but as we advanced, so did the cloud but in the opposite direction - down towards us. And the mountain pass kept on getting further and further away - every time we thought we'd got to the top, we discovered the path continued upwards round the corner! This, we thought was the slight rain but it was to get worse and worse and by the time we reached the pass was very heavy. Luckily at the top someone had built a refuge hut and we were able to get in to eat our, very needed, lunch in the dry. We met another walker whilst there. The downward walk to Dürrboden itself was not too bad other than being cold and very wet. We were very glad to have a winter jacket with us and gloves. Avoiding the little steams was no longer necessary as our feet were very wet. On arriving at the lodge we asked to stay over - we could have taken the bus and long train ride back to the flat but we were tired. All this was fine - the thought of a good evening meal that was cooked for us, very welcome then we were taken to our accommodation! It was in an outbuilding and the nice young man explained that there were no toilet facilities and we would have to walk back to under the restaurant! Then he presented us with bunk beds nicely prepared for us only they were very high up and the ‘ladder’ was very basic!! Once we stopped being cold, we actually had a good night’s sleep and the beds were cosy. Breakfast was enjoyable and the shoes almost dry so we began our walk to Davos.
