Description

From Maloja to Plan di Cavai, the route follows the summer path and the cross-country ski trail. After the rocky outcrop, there is a steep ascent to the ridge west of the Murtairac. Then it continues rather flat to the north gully below the summit. Here the skis are unbuckled and preferably with crampons through the steep couloir up to the northeast ridge. Continue on the ridge to the summit.

Descent along the ascent route.

Directions

From Maloja, head east along the cross-country ski trails and summer paths through forest clearings to Plan di Cavai. Bypass the rocky outcrop to the north and then climb quite steeply on the ridge in a south-southeasterly direction to approx. 2440 m. Traverse eastwards to the slopes of the Murtairac. A rather flat ascent follows until the access to the prominent north groove at the back of the basin. Shoulder your skis and, preferably with crampons, climb the steep couloir up to the northeast ridge. Continue along the ridge to the summit.
