Description
Above the railway line, walk towards Bugnei. Shortly before Bugnei you cross the imposing viaduct in Val Bugnei. It is worth making a small swivel through the village and the Via Romana to visit the chapel. On the sunny and mostly windless side of the valley you continue to Mompé Tujetsch always with a view of the mighty Piz Muraun.
Before the village, go down towards the train station and continue to the cantonal road. Now a traffic-free, asphalted road leads to the Rhine, which has already grown into a small river here. The ascent to Mompé Medel, through forest and past pretty mountain pastures, is a bit steep, but the magnificent view of the monastery village compensates you well for the effort.
At the chapel of St. Valentine, the descent begins again down to the Rhine, on a section of the former Lukmanier mule track, which was already used by the Romans. In Cuflons, the waters squeeze through a gorge and while hiking you get an insight into the stream bed with impressive glacier potholes.
At Camping Fontanivas you will find refreshment, either in the restaurant with a cool drink or in the sparkling fresh water of the lake. A final highlight is the stone-lined path that leads to the train station on the edge of Salapauna.
