Description

The starting point of this hike is pontresina train station. Also accessible by car (parking available) and by public transport. To the left of the Pontresina railway station, the path leads uphill through sparse forest mixed with Swiss stone pine and larch trees to the plateau of Alp Staz. Unexpectedly, a clearing opens here and often game can also be observed.

From here the path leads quite steeply uphill through the old pine and larch forest on Muottas da Schlarigna (2305m).

A magnificent panoramic view of the elongated Pontresina with its traditional hotel buildings compensates for the effort of the ascent. This site also provides a clear view of the protective dam built in 2003 above Pontresina. It is interesting to look at the individual dams and catchment basins from above. The building offers protection against avalanche and rüfen descent.

The route continues along the tree line with wonderful views of the Upper Engadine lake landscape. The descent on a slightly sloping slope path, past bushy slopes and through mountain forest down to St. Moritz Bad is pleasant and easy to master.

Geheimtipp

At the junction descent Alp Staz there is a thousand-year-old Swiss stone pine below the bank. In the immediate vicinity there are still old pine trees.
