Von St. Antönien über die Chleibach-Hängebrücke nach Schiers

In the Walser village of St. Antönien you will find various inns in the immediate vicinity of the Postbus stop Platz, where you can strengthen yourself for the ascent. Next to the post bus stop, follow the road towards «Aschüel» uphill. In zigzag you walk uphill to Aschüel.

Directly after car park no. 21, the hiking trail towards «Salfsch/Schuders» begins; a soft meadow path leads over a moor - here it is magical during the mountain spring! Where the path widens, pay close attention to the marking - the descending path follows the Wissbach towards the forest for a while. Now you cross a wet pasture. Back in the forest, the route turns right along the slope, while on the left a huge erosion ravine opens up. Wetlands alternate with dense forest; Ferns line the path, you feel far away from civilization. In easy ups and downs you finally reach the Chleibachtal, descend to the suspension bridge, which crosses the roaring torrent.

On the opposite slope, stairs lead back up to the Höhenweg, which now leads less damp and needle-soft along the altitude curve. Countless small chubs are elegantly walked around, a logging area is crossed, and finally you reach the beautifully situated hamlet of Salfsch through a swampy cow pasture. Opposite at the same height is Schuders, in between the Schraubachtal. Great view of the limestone walls of the «Graubünden Dolomites».

A forest road now leads to Schiers, which is briefly tarred a few times on wet sections. Winding into the Schraubachtal and along the Schraubach down the valley. At the Schuderser Säge there is a branch in the direction of Schuders, see «Author's tip».

Mighty are the rocks on the way and in the stream. You continue to follow the course of the wild stream. Where the Wissbach joins, the stream bed becomes wide and the whole valley is full of debris. Several high concrete walls hold back the debris and form impressive waterfalls.

At the first signpost to the «Salginatobelbrücke» the Salgina flows into the Schraubach. About 150 meters out of the valley you will find a comfortable picnic area with fireplaces and covered hut. Next to the wide gravel bed, we continue to the gravel plant, where the material is sorted and recycled; the path leads through the middle of the high gravel hills - an unreal lunar landscape. Shortly afterwards you come across the primary school building of Schiers. Turn right in 10 minutes through the village to Schiers train station. 

Detour Salginatobel Bridge: If you are interested in cultural monuments, you can't help but make a detour to the Salginatobel Bridge World Monument. Shortly after the Salginabach you follow the signpost "Historical Circular Trail" and climb about 100 meters up to the Salginatobel Bridge, built by the engineer Robert Maillart. From the bridge you can get back to the Schraubachtobel via circular route or via Unterpusserein to Schiers (Postbus route, few connections per day).

Return via Schuders / Postbus to Schiers: From the Schuderser Säge a path leads to Schuders, from where there is a Postbus connection to Schiers, but with only a few courses per day. The hiking time is thus reduced by about one hour. Before the ascent to Schuders (240 meters in altitude, about 45 minutes), it is advisable to consult the timetable. There is also a place to stop and stay overnight at the Berggasthaus Post, Schuders.
