You cross over the border from the Lower Engadine to the Upper Engadine in the wild Val Punt Ota. Narrow paths run along the slope through coniferous forests and across wide pastures. The view sweeps across the valley and the mountain peaks of the national park. Solid stone walls, round arches and ornate facades catch the eye in Zuoz.

Description

Right from the start, this fifth stage of the Via Engiadina leads us through the middle of a picture-book alpine idyll: from the magnificent village square in Zuoz along the small alleys with their wonderfully decorated house facades, the signposts lead us along paths across alpine meadows to Acla Laret. Here we have a great view of the Upper Engadin and the Swiss National Park, which stretches over the mountains on the opposite side of the valley.

On a wide forest gravel path we first hike down to Chapella and then up again through the idyllic Swiss stone pine and larch forest to Val Punt Ota, where we cross the Punt Ota river - the border between the Upper and Lower Engadin. Along lush mountain meadows the Via Engiadina now runs past Brail via Prazet and down to Zernez.
