Description
The Outdoor Fitness Trails in the Heidiland holiday region comprise more than 30 uniformly signposted running routes from a total of 10 stations, making it one of the largest open-air fitness parks in the Alpine region. The Tscherlach Trail is one of four running trails around the Walenstadt station.
The starting point for this 7.4 km long trail is the info point of the Walenstadt station at the Schifflände (425 m above sea level). From here, the trail leads into the middle of the historic town of Walenstadt, past the Catholic church to the end of the village (473). The trail now runs along the Widenbach for a few metres before turning left. The trail continues through the middle of the vines and across meadows to the village of Tscherlach (451). Above the village, a short but steep ascent begins on a gravel road to the edge of the forest at Valarsch (533). From now on, the route to Berschis (444) is only straight ahead or downhill: first on a well-developed hiking trail, then above the village on a tarred road. On the whole descent you have a wonderful view over the cultural landscape around Walenstadt and the Flumserberge. As soon as you have crossed the Tscherlerbach in Berschis, the trail turns right and follows the stream to the main road, where it crosses the stream again. Always with the imposing Churfirsten in mind, it goes on a tarred side road back to Tscherlach and finally to Walenstadt to the starting point.
