Ruin Surselva
Burgruine Vogelberg, Waltensburg
Description
Is a castle site on a narrow, spur-like plateau above the road from Waltensburg to Andiast, on the edge of the Tobels Val Mulin. Shallow ditch on the mountain side. In the center of the plateau, at the narrowest point, are remains of a tower. Rectangular floor plan of approx. 9 by 8 m. The west corner is preserved up to the height of two storeys. The masonry consists of regular layers of larger stream pebbles. They are very good cornerstones without bosses, but with clean edge stroke. In the north wall, remnants of a slab bordered with slabs can be seen. On the plateau east of the tower are uncertain hints of stone settlements. The tower probably dates back to the 13th century. Hints are completely missing. It would not be unthinkable to identify the complex with the non-localized Stotzenstein Castle. The topographical location on the steep slope would fit in any case.
