Description
The cable system was designed by architect Mario Botta and inaugurated in June 2000. He created the departure and arrival stations and took care of the cabin design and its characteristic rain-drop shape. Thanks to its light steel and glass structure, wonderful views can be enjoyed throughout the journey. Getting to Cardada is thus enjoyable and very comfortable: The Locarno-Orselina cableway is just 5 minutes away from Locarno and its two departure/arrival stations have been designed so that they are easily accessible to elderly people, disabled and families with push chairs. For those who wish to carry on up to Cimetta, there are more views to be experienced thanks to a practical chair lift.

How to reach the Orselina-Cardada cable car:
The most convenient way to reach the cable car that takes you to Cardada is to take the Locarno-Orselina funicular. The funicular can be reached in a few minutes from Locarno SBB train station and the nearby car parks.
If you arrive by car, we recommend that you park at one of the car parks indicated in blue on the map: by presenting the ticket at the funicular ticket office you will benefit from a 50% discount on the cost of parking. There is also the possibility of parking at the Lido di Locarno, from which you can reach the cable car station by taking the FART bus line 2 at the "Residenza Lido" stop which is located in the immediate vicinity.
How to reach Locarno:
Cardada and Locarno are located in the centre of the Canton of Ticino and are easily accessible by car and train. For those arriving by plane from the nearest international airports (Zurich and Milan), we recommend continuing your journey to Locarno using the train of the Basel-Milan international railway line.
