Belfort is one of the historically most important castle ruins in Graubünden. It lies on a steeply sloping rocky ridge near Brienz/Brinzauls. Enjoy the view from the large picnic area with fire pit. Hiking time 15 min.

Description

The castle was built around 1200 and was the ancestral seat of the Barons of Vaz. The castle was destroyed in 1499 and has been a ruin ever since. In recent years, it has been renovated with great effort and made more accessible. In the historic walls a herb garden was created with herbs that were probably already used in the Middle Ages. Take an excursion to belfort castle ruins and learn about the historic site. Please note: - Always use the public barbecue areas! - Extinguish fire after grilling! - Observe warnings regarding the risk of forest fires!
