In the middle of the village on the main road is the house of the district judge Gilli Maissen, which was built in 1570.
Description
Gill Maissen was a captain in French service, Landamann, Landrichter and Landeshauptmann in Valtellina. The inhabitants of Sumvitg call the house «Casa um da fier» (House of the Iron Man). Striking are the beautiful wall paintings, which may have been created by painter Hans Ardüser (1557-1617). A three-meter-tall knight adorns a façade of the building. Between two windows, the coats of arms of the High Court of the Cadi, the Grey League, the League of Churches and the League of Ten Courts were immortalized. Above this coat of arms is that of the builder. The sides of the façade are decorated by the representation of biblical scenes, standard-bearers and warriors. The house is one of the finest examples of façade painting in Graubünden and is now a listed building.
The house is inhabited, no entry!
