Chapel Surselva
Kapelle St. Antonius / S. Antoni, Brigels
Description
The year of construction of the small church at the southern entrance to the village is estimated on the basis of a picture dedicated to the chapel to the year 1771. The approximately 3 x 4 m large room faces east, and a profiled stucco cornice runs around the entire room. The floor is covered with jointed stone slabs. On the west side, the chapel has a wooden door, above which a glazed bezel is omitted in the façade. It is the only window of the chapel. Above the entrance rises an elaborate iron cross. The altar with two lateral additions occupies the entire width of the chapel. In an oval medallion stands the sculptural half-figure of the chapel patron with the Child Jesus. He carries the child on his left arm, and in his right hand he holds a palm branch. The two marbled wooden columns on both sides of the altar support a dissolved canopy in which the radiant sun with the Christ monogram can be seen.
