Chapel Surselva
Kapelle St. Antonius / S. Antoni von Padua, Danis
The chapel of St. Anthony of Padua stands north of the parish church of the Holy Trinity.
Description
The chapel of St. Anthony of Padua stands north of the parish church of the Holy Trinity. It was built in 1724 by Capuchins who had pastoral care in Danis-Tavanasa until 1940.
In the eastern part of the building is the resting room and in the west an equipment room. In 1931, the paintings inside the chapel were restored. The altar was refreshed. The last complete restoration of the chapel took place in 1986.
The side walls have a reddish-yellow marbled painting up to chest height. All overlying parts of the wall are painted with scenes from the life of St. Anthony of Padua and with descriptions from the Old Testament. On the west wall on the left, under the blind arch, you can see the scene of donkey feeding on the market square and above it in the shield a holy king dressed in an ermine coat. To the right of the central pilaster, Holy Communion is depicted under the blind arch and above it a popular assembly around a warrior standing on a pedestal. On the base is the following inscription: < ECCE EMIM DEUS NOSTER, COLIMU TERIPERE NOS DE CAMINO IGNIS DAVIT!>
On the east wall at the bottom right you can see a large painting with St. Anthony preaching fish and in the shield above the blind arch a scene with Moses. To the left of the central pilaster you can see below the chapel patron at a pulpit sermon and above the shield a praying figure with a view into the wide plain with the inscription:
On the flat north wall rises the chapel altar. Its antependium is covered with carved foliage. In the middle there is a round-arched niche with the statuette of St. Anthony of Padua, carrying the baby Jesus and a palm branch.
In the aedicule of twisted columns and a segmental pediment opens a niche with the statue of St. Anthony, surrounded by nine round medallions depicting scenes from the life of the saint.
