Muglin Ftan
The Ftan mill is now closed until further notice due to renovation work.

Description

Grain cultivation used to be the agricultural basis of the Lower Engadine. The fields on the terraced slopes characterised the cultural landscape until shortly after the Second World War. The old mill of Ftan is the last witness to this era and tells of the once rich grain culture. The building houses two mills in their original condition. The older mill was built around 400 years ago and, according to the Swiss Heritage Society, is the oldest working mill in Switzerland. The runner stones are driven by the water paddles and the wooden shafts to the mighty cogwheels.
