The Ftan mill is closed with immediate effect until further notice due to renovation.
Description
The cultivation of grain used to be the agricultural basis of the Lower Engadine. The fields on the terraced slopes shaped the image of the cultural landscape until shortly after the 2nd World War. The old mill of Ftan is the last witness of this era and tells of the once rich grain culture. There are two mills in the building in their original condition. The construction of the older mill dates back about 400 years and, according to the Swiss Heritage Society, is the oldest mill in Switzerland that is still working in its original form. The runner stones are driven by the water shovels and the wooden shafts to the mighty gears.
