Together with Neudorfststrasse and Untere Stallstrasse, it is an expression of a brilliant urban development vision.

After the devastating village fire of 1845, the cantonal chief engineer Richard La Nicca pulled a plan out of the drawer that would finally free Thusis from the danger of fire. Instead of rebuilding the old Thusis as before as a closely packed settlement, he proposed a road that would be 13 meters wide and flanked by the facades of stately houses.

65 construction sites were eliminated, a distance of twelve feet was demanded between the houses and the stables and barns were moved to the rear side of the building. Unless converted into residential buildings, there are storage rooms, workshops – and since 1957 also the small, fine cinema Rätia.
