Historical Site Chur
Obertor
The Obertor is a historical landmark of the city of Chur and at the same time the entrance gate to the car-free old town.
Description
The Obertor, together with the Malteserturm and the Sennhofturm, are the towers of the medieval fortifications that are still standing today. Thanks to its attractive appearance, the Obertor soon advanced to become one of Chur's landmarks. While the four-storey building, which narrows towards the top, fits into the overall structure of the settlement, at the same time it stands apart from the other terraced buildings due to its light exterior. The paintings in the archway, some of which are based on old views of the city, date from the 20th century.
