In his memoirs, Gian Giacomo Matossi (1753-1838), one of the first emigrants who sought his fortune as a confectioner, recounts that he bought an old house in Via di Puntunai with his first income.
Description
Only his son Francesco gave this house its present appearance: In 1854 he commissioned the Italian architect Giovanni Sottovia from Vicenza, who in the following years shaped today's village of Poschiavo with numerous works. Although the building preserves certain elements of traditional house architecture, it is the most impressive example of 19th century neoclassicism in Poschiavo. Also excellently preserved inside, the palazzo can be visited on request.
