The small village of Santa Maria sits on a sun-kissed hill, straddling the Mesolcina and Calanca valleys.

Description

Overlooking the Mesolcinese valley floor, the village of Santa Maria, located at 955 meters above sea level, is dominated by a spectacular architectural complex consisting of the medieval tower, the parish church, already mentioned in 1219, and the hospice of the Capuchin fathers, which testify a glorious past.

Protected in a hollow, the core of the village stands on the terraces below. The stone buildings, many of which are Renaissance-style, are connected by a dense network of cobbled pedestrian streets.

Santa Maria also boasts a Mediterranean climate characterized by the marked presence of chestnut trees.
