Val Cama

Val Cama and adjacent valleys, beloved destinations for hikers and nature lovers, are largely un-known outside the immediate region. The area is located in one of the largest forest reserves in Switzerland and belongs to the territories of the villages of Cama and Verdabbio. It is located on the south side of the Alps, in the Italian-speaking region of Misox, accessible only by foot. The picturesque mountain lake, Lagh de Cama, is surrounded by a majestic mountain amphithea-ter. On its shores lies the Alp de Lagh, known for its variety of ancient animal breeds* as well as its excellent goat cheese, which matures in a natural rock cellar nearby.

Train service is available until the stations of Thusis or Bellinzona, from where a bus runs on an hourly schedule, with a stop in Cama. From the village of Cama, a narrow road leads over the Mo-esa and the highway bridge to the hamlet of Ogreda and the parking lot located at the forest trail-head. Note: the turn-off to Val Cama from the village of Cama is marked only by a small yellow hiking sign indicating „Val Cama - Lagh de Cama“.

Coming by car from Bellinzona, take the exit at Roveredo, from San Bernardino take the exit at Lostallo and drive on the cantonal road to Cama. From the village of Cama, a narrow road leads over the Moesa and the highway bridge to the hamlet of Ogreda and the parking lot located at the forest trailhead. Note: the turn-off to Val Cama from the village of Cama is marked only by a small yellow hiking sign indicating „Val Cama - Lagh de Cama“.
