Event Davos Klosters
50 years of long-term research space
Description
On the Stillberg in the Davos Dischma Valley, we are researching how different tree species at the tree line cope with changing environmental conditions.
The first research projects took place in the 1950s jointly between the Eidg. Institute for Forest Research EAFV and the SLF (united in the WSL since 1989). This was followed in 1975 by the planting of 92,000 young trees (Swiss stone pines, mountain pines, larches) in order to explore possibilities for natural avalanche protection through trees at and above the tree line.
In 2025, we will celebrate the 50th anniversary of reforestation together with the public and professional audience.
