The documentary "Beyond Tradition: Power of the Voices of Nature" by Lea Hagmann and Rahel von Gunten accompanies a young singer from Appenzell and singers from Rustavi in Georgia and Sápmi in Scandinavia on their journey of building bridges between tradition and innovation. Using individual biographies, it shows where these young people come from, with which traditions they grew up and how they develop them further and thus express their complex identities. The film has the protagonists Meinrad Koch, Marja Mortensson and Ninuca Kakhiani tell us what tradition means to them, why they feel connected to the Appenzell Ruggusseli, the Georgian polyphony and the Sami joik, what they adopt in terms of originality and where they would like to see changes. Contemporary discussions on gender issues, colonialism and ethnic minorities are also included.

Producer and cameraman Thomas Rickenmann will then talk to the audience.
