Bundestag Davos – Davos celebrates 500 years of the Free State of the Three Leagues

The canton of Graubünden is celebrating a special anniversary in 2024: exactly 500 years ago, the three federations of the Grey League, the League of the House of God and the League of the Ten Courts joined forces to form a confederation of states, the Free State of the Three Leagues, thus paving the way for the modern canton of Graubünden.

In the Free State of the Three Leagues, the Diets were the most important assemblies and formed the highest political authority. In the anniversary year, this old tradition will be revived, and these special festivities will be held at several locations in the canton. Davos, as the former capital of the League of Ten Courts, will celebrate its Federal Day on 20 July 2024 with lively discussions, a cheerful festive atmosphere and a varied programme.

Travelling exhibition "Graubünden Treasures on the Road"

In the anniversary year, a mobile museum will travel through the regions of Graubünden on a treasure hunt and will stop at the Arkadenplatz in Davos from 17 July to 27 July for the Bundestag Day. The mini-museum focuses on the history and culture of Graubünden in a versatile and unexpected way. A centrepiece is the collection of personal belongings of Graubünden residents, which are collected on the journey through the valleys. The loans may be brought in and will be safely stored until the end of the exhibition.

Presentation of the minutes of the Bundestag

The Swiss Foundation for Legal Sources and the State Archives of the Grisons present the online version of the Bundestag minutes, which have survived from 1567 to 1797. It is the most important source on the history of the Free State of Graubünden, the forerunner of today's canton of Graubünden. Dr. Adrian Collenberg (Editor of the Bundestag Minutes) and Reto Weiss (State Archivist) will give lectures.
